Don't let the yahoos psych you out.

Years ago, I measured the glide ratio of my Coupe and got decent numbers
at
the medium speeds. At low airspeeds, it does, indeed, get a pretty good
sink rate and low glide ratio.

So don't glide at low airspeeds. Keep the speed up to 75-90 and you'll
get
a decent glide ratio.

Though I'd like to tell you the exact ratio, my results were confounded by
an erroneous airspeed indicator. My methodology was very careful but
didn't
include accuracy testing the airspeed indicator first and that's critical
to
figuring the true ratio though it doesn't matter if all you want to know
is
what's the best glide speed for YOUR airplane.

Allowing for the known airspeed indicator, I'd guess that the true best
ratio was close to 10:1 at an airspeed of about 75 mph. [My exact
measurements gave 12:1 at 80-85mph but I had about an 18% lower airspeed
than was used in the calculations so I'll say about 10:1 at around 75mph.]
