Looking for something else, I stumbled across an actual "factory cover" for your 3/4" hole!

From Fig. 1 of Ercoupe Service Memorandum No. 42, a 3/4" Button Plug is 415-40589-1.
In 2004 this was still available from Univair for $1.55. John (Skyport) may also stock it?
