Sorry - an addendum to that last post.
When you're flying the slipstream should keep you from getting any water in
the tanks in flight. Just make sure that your cap seals are tight - replacing
them with new cork seals is probably not a bad idea. At 80-90kts it would
take more rain / water than you should be flying in anyway to get anything
into the tanks by way of the tank caps. While the plane is static, if there
are any leaks by way of the seals (or the fuel guage wires) the water will
just seep in at its own leisure.
Obviously it would also be a good idea to make sure that there are no other
ways that water is getting in.
