Here are some thoughts, for what they’re
worth.
If you take your check ride in a 2-control
Coupe, your license will limit you to 2-control only.
I think it’s wise to train in all
the maneuvers (except slip) to the point where you would be ready to take the
check ride. Then, if a Light Sport Aircraft is available, take your last
few hours in it to master everything using the rudder pedals and take your
check ride in the 3-control aircraft.
Yes, it’ll cost you some extra but
you’ll have an unrestricted license.
It is OK to take your Sport license check
ride in your Coupe and stay with 2-control while you build time and have fun.
Maybe you’ll never fly anything else.
Let’s get the info from our CFI
members of the list. If she wants to upgrade to 3-control, does she have
to take another full DPE check ride or is it easier than that to remove the
restriction?
