Sigh. Maybe next year. I didn't leave Thursday because I thought the weather was too uncertain. We left Friday morning at about 10, and arrived in Fayetteville, AR, about 12:30. I had to scud run most of the way, flying at about 2000 MSL. Lots of low clouds. but they were broken, but not enough big openings to get on top. So it was a low trip. Checking radar in Fayetteville, a large cell was coming up from the south, and it was starting to look like it was going to bust loose in Arkansas. I asked the FBO to put the plane in a hangar, and my wife and I rented a car and got a motel room. We spent the afternoon exploring the Prairie Grove Civil War battlefield near Fayetteville. It rained pretty good.
Got out this morning (Saturday) to take off for Texas (despite some touchy spots in the weather). Tried to taxi and the steering was all messed up. Got out and looked more closely at the scissors on the nose wheel, and the lower link was bent rather badly. Apparently they overstressed it when they put the plane in the hangar. No flying with it that way!
The FBO was very apologetic and rented me a car to drive home, and promised to have it repaired quickly. So I drove back home from Fayetteville to near St. Louis. In a few days I will have to drive back and fly the plane back home.
So I missed Terrell. Sorry. I am very disappointed. Hope to see you next year.
