Even here in Southern California, the clean air laws have actually done a
lot of good and cleaned up the air so that it's mow much better than it used
to be despite an increasing population. The air actually isn't bad most of
the year, and many days are just gorgeous. Steep & rugged granite mountains
rise to 8,000 + feet and are visible 50 miles to the north & east (snow
covers the peaks in the winter time), and Catalina Island is visible sitting
in the Pacific 30 miles to the west where the sun sets.
However Northern California definitely has the cleaner air and is far less
crowded (prettier too).

Hi,
I lost track of who actually took these photos. Is it
one of you folks here? Wonderful work, whomever did
it!
FYI, not all of California is smoggy and even the
extremely smoggy parts have occasional times when
they're not.
I noticed one of the photos was of Lake Tahoe.
Truckee, CA is very near Tahoe and is supposed to be
one of the best glider areas in the world. I have
always wanted to take glider lessons too but haven't
as yet. I did spend several hours one day watching the
gliders at Truckee. That has got to be a huge thrill -
no engine on purpose!
Cheers,
Spook
