This is certainly true. The Coupe was dissed from the beginning as not a real airplane, and that attitude seems to have carried on to maintenance habits. More than other 2-seaters the Coupe has suffered from very casual repairs and a feeling that's it's an experimental plane so do what you will. I saw lots of badly done and just strange fixes to Ercoupes when looking for mine.
