A couple of Saturdays ago, we flew down to Westport, WA, and then up to Copalis Beach, where we landed on the beach. Supposedly, it is the only state airport on an ocean beach. We landed just after high tide. There are as can be as many as 70 planes there on a good day, I read somewhere. Here is the airport guide info and pic: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/aviation/AllStateAirports/CopalisBeach_CopalisState.htm
Here is a video of us on the beach after landing (my copilot forgot to push the record button on the camera while we were landing, with all the excitement of landing there for the first time): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SKkJsF9SLw and here is a video of us taking off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k-rs4m29Q0 When we got back to KRNT, we thouroughly washed down the whole airplane, especially the gear. Although we don't plan on doing this often, we look forward to going back down there again when a lot more folks are down there. There are a lot of videos of planes landing down there on You Tube, including an old twin Beach taildragger. One of the local we met on the beach said a guy with a turbine Goose comes down once in awhile and impresses everyone while he back the plane up the beach after landing. Cool! Marty Duke N846MD KRNT
