Randy; The static port on the Coupe is combined with the pitot tube. The
pitot tube is constructed so that the ram air pressure (front of the pitot
tube) goes into one small tube, while the static pressure is taken from
the
sides (with six small holes) of the pitot tube. Both small lines then run
from the left wing into the fuselage and up behind the instrument panel.
You can check, first at the pitot tube to see if there are two
tubes
going up into the wing, and then at the point where the left wing is
fastened
to the fuselage. Look up from under the wing where the aileron control rod
is
connect to the aileron. The two tubes carrying the pitot and static
pressure
run right behind the rear spar of the wing, and are connected with rubber
tubing at this point to the tubes that carry the pitot and static pressure
into the fuselage. If you have these two tubes connected, then the next
place
to look is inside the cockpit on the left side, along the front of frame B
(this is the frame that is just behind the fuselage tank and in front of
the
instrument panel) if you are laying on the seat looking forward, just
reach
up to feel behind the airspeed indicator. Both the pitot and static lines
should be hooked to the airspeed. Normally there is a tee in the line at
the
airspeed indicator which will then carry the static line to the altimeter
(and the encoder, if you have a transponder with one of those gadgets)
If the lines are in place to the airspeed, you should be able to
hook
up the static line to the altimeter by putting a tee in the static line
and
then connecting it. The airspeed is marked on the back as to which line is
the pitot and which is the static, but you will most likely need a mirror
and
a flashlight in order to see them.
If you only have one line hooked up to the Coupe's airspeed
indicator,
then it will also not be reading correctly.
I hope this helps.
