I had an Aeromatic prop on my coupe for about a year.  I bought it at a flea market and sent it to Aeropropellor for overhaul.  I ended up spending about $2400 total.  While it allowed the engine to spin up to a higher static RPM I did not notice a big performance increase.  I maybe got off the ground a bit faster but top speed was slower.  Also the adjusting weights needed to be rebalanced when the weather changed, it seemed fairly temperature sensitive.  I decided to give it up when one of the blades (which are made of wood and held in by large lag screws) came loose.  I sent it back for repair (another $400) and then donated it to the EAA museum.

I feel more comfortable with a nice solid metal prop.  I would go for an O-200 upgrade to get better performance instead.
