----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- I am doing my first annual on N2601H this week, and thought I should take
care of the Center Section AD at the same time. Luckily, most
everything looks good in there, but I do have a bit of corrosion on the spar web behind, and above, the right side Spar Attach fitting. The problem we have run into here is that to de-rivet the large rivets of
the spar attach fitting in order to clean up the corrosion, we also
have to re-install these large rivets, which would be difficult at best. It looks like this would probably require the removal of the main spar completely just to get the rivets done. On my plane, the same rivets were replaced on the left side with AN bolts and aircraft nuts. So far, neither Univair nor Skyport believe that bolts are a legitimate
repair. My mechanic generally believes that bolts would be as good as or
better than the original rivets.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this problem, and what a good solution
might be?
I would greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide.
Thanks,
NBC
