----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- I always turn off the wing tanks because I
find even with the tail at the proper height fuel will consistently drain from
the header tank back to the wings if the valve is open when parked. If this
happens it usually comes back up to the proper level on taxi and
run-up.
I never close the header tank valve because I
want to make sure that any water drains down to the gascolator sump while the
plane sits.
You should NEVER have any gas leaking from the
gascolator, carb, etc. It would not be safe to run the engine, and certainly not
to fly. If you see no drips or fuel on the ground but the header tank has
dropped while parked it has most likely just drained back to the
wings.
