I always turn off the wing tanks because I find even with the tail at the proper height fuel will consistently drain from the header tank back to the wings if the valve is open when parked. If this happens it usually comes back up to the proper level on taxi and run-up.

I never close the header tank valve because I want to make sure that any water drains down to the gascolator sump while the plane sits.

You should NEVER have any gas leaking from the gascolator, carb, etc. It would not be safe to run the engine, and certainly not to fly. If you see no drips or fuel on the ground but the header tank has dropped while parked it has most likely just drained back to the wings.

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] fuel on or not

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

I'm a new ercoupe owner my question is do you turn off the fuel after each flight or not ? The guy I bought the plane from said he never did. But after I got home all the fuel from the header tank leaked out from the gasculator.what do you think because the fuel was on or the gasket just went bad at that time.
