The purpose is to channel cold air over the oil tank and lower it's temperature. Sounds like some if not all of this stuff is missing on your airplane. Technically, baffles are part of the airframe, not the engine, and as such are supplied by the airframe manufacturer. That said, back in the days our planes were designed, the engine manufacturer provided at least suggestions on how the baffling should be constructed. That's why so many small Continental installations have similar or identical baffling.
