I've seen a lot of engines where the change to the engine data plate had
been done with a hand metal-stamp kit.  The A&Ps on the list will give
you the legal word.

I've asked around the question of how a C-75 can get turned into a C-85.

I was lead to the Service Bulletin from Continental dated December 30,
1947
(revised July 9, 1952) that outlines the parts and paperwork Continental
required to give the new/updated engine I.D plate.

In a nutshell it instructs you to send in the original engine I.D plate
along
with the filled out form (Form AVS-1) that you'd get from Continental
and check
off (Form ACA-337) from the FAA (CAA at the time) that the work has been
done.

Continental would then in turn send a new engine I.D. plate with the
same serial
number as before with the letter "C" appended to it and the engine size
stated
now as C-85.

The question that has since come up is whether or not Continental (now
part of
Teledyne) still allows and/or supports this to be done.
I wanted to ask the group before contacting Teledyne should anyone know
of a
certain procedure I need follow in dealing with them.
Has anyone had experience in dealing with Teledyne concerning these old
engines?

Doing the work is relatively straightforward.
It's just making it all "paper legal" that falls in question.
