John Pretty well hit on it. There are only a few additives an A & P can legally put in a plane. MMO isn't one of them. It is reputed to help sticking valve problems however as John said you'll get as many people on one side of the line as on the other. The FAA just sent a SAIB to all 0-200 owners restating their policy and feelings on additives. They of course have to mention "enforcement action" against those who would use an unapproved additive. I doubt that the benefits of MMO would warrant me losing my A&P ticket by getting caught dumping it in someone's fuel tanks. <G> TCP does seem to be available again. I sent a link earlier of a company that claims to have it in stock. http://www.airsuppliers.com/aircraftparts/aviation-catalog/ALCOR-TCP-FOR_A IRCRAFT.asp I have tried Avblend. I've also carried rabbits feet, thrown salt over my shoulder and never noticed any benefit.---But then again that's an oil additive and the man said fuel additives. I am very concerned with sticking valves in the small Continentals. A sticking exhaust valve will bring you down on 3 cylinders. If the intake valve sticks the whole induction is upset and down you come. I honestly don't give a damn for the "rope trick" since My personal ideas on avoiding this was to install new Millenium cylinders and run auto fuel 60-75% of the time. Continental and ECI all have their own ways of dealing with the lead fouling problems. I thought I had noted a bit of "morning sickness" on some first flights of the day. A top would have entailed new seats, new valves, etc. Not knowing for sure how many cycles were on my cylinders I opted for new. So that's my wishy-washy dissertation on fuel additives. If you haven't gotten the SAIB on fuel additives and want to read it see www.airweb.faa.gov and look for SAIB NE-03-45 June 27, 2003 Cheers: Paul NC2273H ========================================================================== ==== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm Search the archives on http://escribe.com/aviation/coupers-tech/
