This business of refurbishing airplanes is a real up and down
affair (pun intended).

No sooner do I find upon dismantling my engine that the parts are
in better shape than expected, I am stripping my engine mount
and I notice one of the tubes is bent.

Those who have been following this thread will remember
that the plane was put into a gopher hole in the late 60's and
repairs made at that time. Those repairs already caused me to
question the skills of the mechanic who did it since there is a crack
in the weld on the lower nose gear tube where it attaches to the mount.
Now I realize that although they replaced one tube, they must have just
hammered the other back into place.

I have a certified shop here that can handle the repairs at $$$$$ but I
was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and
can lend any advice.
