Tom,
Though it’s too late for this infection, may I make this suggestion for
the future?
It’s been nice on these lists to click reply and have the message pop up
to reply only to the sender. This
allows private responses to go directly to the original message’s sender
without making 350+ people read it.
Then, if it’s a reply of general interest, we have to actively add the
list address.
After a week of 100-300 virus laden messages a day, I think I’d like to
make this suggestion and request.
Would you please see if your list software can hide the senders’ e-mail
address or (even better) make the address un-machine readable? The reply-to would be the list.
Though the current method has its conveniences, the danger (in these
virus laden times) may merit a change in our procedures.
Thanks for considering this, Tom.
To those list members who still don’t have an anti-virus program,
I think that participation in groups like this includes an ethical
responsibility to protect your computer with an effective antivirus
program. By protecting yourself,
you protect all of us from attacks like we’re now receiving from one or more of
your computers.
Though I’m protected against the current (and I hope future) viruses, I’m
now having to spend valuable time each day identifying and deleting the hundreds
of bogus virus-laden e-mails I’m receiving.
For lists like this to work, we need for each of you to protect your
computer and the addresses in your address book and saved e-mails.
As soon the list member who is infected cleans up his/her computer,
those of us under attack may be able to get back to full use of ours.
Thanks.
Ed
