I have recently been given a manufactured fuel cap that fits perfectly on an ercoupe fuel tank. It was found at a fuel pump somwhere and the guy who found it was saving it for the first plane that it would fit.
Kinda like the cindarella story so far.
I also have come across a level switch which is a stainless steel float level magnetic switch that can easily be adapted to the cap.
The fuel level switch is used for hydrocarbon services and makes the cork float look stone age by comparisson.
My idea is to install this modified cap on my header tank and make it turn a red light on located in the middle of my instrument panel.
The logic is that I WILL see a red light go on telling me that the fuel level in myheader is starting to drop. I may not notice the cork float level descending and may be in for a surprise.
Has anyone tried anything like this before?
Is it legal?
Anybody think of any disadvantages?

Alan
