Not too amazing, really. Aircraft at the bottom end of the price range
tend to
have this problem.

Ercoupes were, for a long time, the cheapest certificated way to get in
the 
air.

Stinsons were the cheapest 4-seater version of same for a long time, and
taildraggers to boot.

I don't have the numbers to hand, but the T-Craft (another plane at the
bottom
of the financial chain) were pretty bad for a while.
