Steve;    I checked the Aircoupe maintenance manual today, and this is what is says about disassembly of the nose gear:
"To disassemble the oleo strut, first remove the nutcracker attaching bolts and the nutcracker; drain the hydraulic fluid from the strut by inverting it with the filler plug removed for about an hour, in an inverted position. When the oil has drained, remove the two countersunk screws which retain the head in the outer cylinder. Pull the head and outer cylinder apart until the two snap rings are exposed. Remove the snap rings. The complete inner piston assembly now may be removed from the inner cylinder; the outer cylinder may also be removed from around the inner cylinder."

So I guess the broomstick option will not work with the SK-17 nose strut assembly.

Good luck.
