Greg::

That is what passes for crude cowl flaps on a Coupe.  Good advice.

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Anytime it's under 50. Basically if the oil won't make it to a
sustained 170-180F, even in a climb, it's time to winterize.

As with any change, put the winterization gear in place, and
fly for a while where you can easily land and relieve the problem
should there be one.

I've never seen a sump insulator, just the baffle. Seems like a good
idea, though. Even with the lower whole of a Kinney nose bowl closed
off, I still have trouble running hot enough if the ground temp is below
40.

When I bought my coupe several years ago, part of the the equipment that came with it was an oil sump insulator and a air blocking door for the intake below the prop. My question is, at what temp do you use this equipment? I have never used it for fear of overheating the engine? FCF.
