I wanted to get my two cents (canadian) in on the
canopy question. When I first bought my Forney it
had the three part windshield arrangement , with a sun screen in the centre.
It was a real pain to get in and out of the
plane.
I rebuilt it with only two sides, making each a bit
longer.
Recently I ran into another couper who showed my
the way to fly open canopy. You pull one window down and then slide the other
window up so it is over your head. That cuts down on the wind noise and gives
you two nice open windows.
I added my own touch to the technique by getting a
couple of "press-on" sun shades at Walmart
for
three bucks a piece. If you arrange them on the
window above your head they form a great sunshield.
You can also use them on the side windows for
those
days you need to fly closed canopy because of the
weather.
By the way....when flying with the windows open,
try sticking your arm out the side to increase your descent rate....its a great
speedbreak.
