Well, it looks like in spite of putting out 16V full-fielded, and in spite of a new voltage regulator, and in spite of cleaning up some lossy connections, N99387's alternator may be folding up under significant load. It's one of those conversions...a Ford alternator with a drive gear and bolted to a special casting. Though I don't have the original STC paperwork, I don't know that there are that many variants for the O-200. Does anybody know where to send such a thing to get tested/rebuilt? Or is my best (and legal) bet an automotive electrical shop, seeing as it is an automotive part. I'd even do a quality exchange...the alternator is not THAT critical on a VFR airplane.
