I had an "unwired" Stromberg on my 85 HP, "46, Mod. D. All the
while I
owned and flew N103JF I never had an EGT. When climbing above 5000 ft I
only had to slowly reduce the mixture until the rpm started to drop, then
I
would increase the mixture until I got the original rpm's back. As I
climbed to higher altitudes I repeated the procedure as often as was
required. When I descended for landing I always reset the mixture to full
rich.
I don't often enter into your conversations, instead I enjoy
reading the
flyin and tech email. I can't fly as pilot in control since my heart
attack
but this is the next best thing for me. Land with the shiny side up.
