Fred, Ed and all.

When I got my coupe, it had the snubber cable installed and I flew it a couple of years before I tried it without one.
The landing convinced me that the coupe does not need a snubber cable.
With snubber, the nose came always down with a plonk, hitting the nose gear/engine mount somewhat.
Now, the nose not only comes down soft and gentle and smooth, but also I gain steering authority from early on, which lets me handle the coupe better in cross wind takeoffs especially.

I also found me a fairing for the nose gear and I am really happy to have that one installed.
Plane flies faster and seems to be more stable in the air, cause the fairing seems to act like a little rudder, trying to keep everything straight.

In my eyes, every 2 control Coupe should have at least a very long snubber cable, if at all.

The fear that the nose gear might fall off sometime is bogus and without any practical evidence.
The nose fork is heat-shrunken onto the shaft, making it impossible to move, even under adverse circumstances.
And after all, when your single or double fork really would come loose, the scissors will hold it as well as the cable would do.

I see more cons than pros for the snubber cable.

Yes it requires to get used to the longer extending nose gear, but after 3 landings it seems natural.

The Ercoupe is not your ordinary Cessna. It is a different bird, to be flown and landed differently. The nose gear is part of that design. Why cripple it ?

Thanks Ed for the advise. I plan to install the cable I can always take it off. I don't have the fairing so I do not have an advantage on the speed. Who ever designed the twin fork must have had a good reason for including the cable, no doubt for the reason you gave. F Fowler.
