Bob: The orfices were originally just proper size holes drilled in the
bottom of the tube. Some have been modified, especially if they corroded, and
have been switched to brake fluid and use a brake cylinder cup oleo seal
(available from Skyport) which is held to the bottom of the tube with a screw.
This screw has a hole drilled in it to the proper size.
If you have the original set up, with just an O
ring on the bottom of the tube with an orifice drilled in the bottom, you could
change this by putting in a screw (after drilling and tapping the tube) with a
hole the proper size. It certainly would be possible to do without removing the
tube, but I would recommend removing the tube before drilling and tapping.
Be sure you obtain permission and 337 approval from
the FAA before beginning any modifications.
