Hi everyone,

I am looking for information on the Alternator STC. Any information that
can be provided would be greatly appreciated. I currently have a 20 amp
generator in my coupe, SN135.

Thanks

Jim

Hartmut,

I recently rebuilt both of the wings on my 1966 Alon, including
replacement
of all the wing skins. I formed my own leading edge skins and they came
out
better than a leading edge skin that a friend of mine got from Univair.
The
leading edge skin on the Alon is just a flat piece of aluminum with a
single
large radius bend down the length of it. It is not really formed to the
shape of
the leading edge of the wing. When you take the original leading edge
skin
off of the wing of an Alon, it will open up into an "L" shape with about a
3
inch radius bend and straight "legs". When installed, the radius of the
bend in
the leading edge skin wraps around the nose of the ribs, and the rest of
the
leading edge skin is just held down to the shape of the ribs by the
rivets.

I don't know if the earlier model leading edge skin is made the same way
(with just a single large radius bend in it). You would need to confirm
this with
someone who has seen an earlier model skin removed from a wing. But if it
is
basically the same as the Alon leading edge, you should be able to make
one
using the same method that I used, and then just trim it to fit. Having
the
old skin to use as a pattern helps with alignment and trim issues.

If you want to attempt to form this skin yourself, let me know and I can
tell
you how I did it. I can also supply photos of the process. Making the
bend
requires a sturdy, flat, 14 foot long table or bench, and some other
lumber.
It's NOT an easy job, but it can be done. I only ruined one 4x12 foot
sheet of
aluminum while I was figuring out how to do it. ;>)

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Best Regards,

Wayne
