The pointed hammer device I described in an earlier post would be useful in canopy model Coupes (ALON and MOONEY), Not ,I think, in ERCOUPES and FORNEYS with sliding windows. Those would be open in event of a forced landing and would undoubtedly stay in that position. Conversely, canopies , open or closed, would probably jam closed in event of a crash landing. I have been assured by local fire/rescue personnel that the pointed hammer will break plexiglass, but I am not 100 % sure of that (since I have not actually tested it on my ALON canopy !). In any case, the WalMart price of the lightweight item ($5.96), together with the included seatbelt cutter, flashlight and mounting holder seem to make it an excellent buy. Don Bowen
