Coupers:
David Smoler has indicated that he is again prepared to begin sales
of his very fine shoulder-harness installation drawings and engineering
studies. He sent me this email to pass along. He no longer owns an
Ercoupe, and doesn't have time to answer a lot of email enquiries, so
he's asked that we answer questions ourselves (a number of people
here have done, or have the installation). Let's try and do that to ensure
that the package continues to be available to us. Here is David's note (with
his permission):
==============================================================
Dear Coupers:
Thanks to all of you who have already purchased the Shoulder Harness
Information Package. To those of you who have just discovered my design, I
spent nine months of designing,
constructing, installing, and going through certification, before finally
having an approved shoulder harness installation in my Alon. Due to
requirements of my local FSDO, I had a Designated Engineering
Representative (DER) design my installation, so the final package included
with the 337 has "FAA Approved Data" that calculates its ability to
withstand 9G force.
Due to FAA regulations, this data applies only to N6359V, so I can't make
any claims for it or sell parts. The value to you (aside from saving nine
months) in purchasing a copy of this design package is that rather than
just a drawing of the installation as included with some published 337s,
there is complete data from a reputable source, so it is more likely to be
accepted by your FSDO. To the best of my knowledge, structural attachments
and fuselage materials are virtually identical for all 'coupe models so
that this method can be used on any 'coupe.
I am selling complete data packages for $25.00 each (mailed in the USA) to
defray my expenses. These packages of approximately 20 pages include:
(1) The DER's report with all calculations.
(2) Drawings, parts lists, and recommended sources for all
parts.
(3) 4 x 6 photos of the installation, both external and in
the tailcone.
(4) Copies of the 337, log entries, and w&b data.
(5) Written details on how I did my installation, with some
helpful hints.
As I no longer own an Alon and there should be a bunch of folks on the
email reflector who have already installed harnesses this way, I would
appreciate if you ask them about details.
If you would like to purchase a package, just send me a check and your
mailing address. I print everything in batches, so I will mail your package
within a day or two after receiving your check - or, it will take a week or
so while I find the time to print and collate a new batch.
If you must email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks and safe flying.

sheep, cattle, and horses. The wild turkeys and wild pigs are vicious!
