I have had five experienced mechanics look at/study my "ratcheting/binding " LH MLG . All agree that the problem is in or around the stack of (7 ) new Bellville springs, or in the oleo strut assembly going through them. I have purchased a used strut assembly in good conditon, replaced the old springs on it with the new ones from my istallation, then had it installed/uninstalled/inspected/installed to no avail. The noise is still there even though all parts and attachments were closely checked and compared to the RN MLG. There is no play in the stack. However, there was evidence of some shoddy work at some time in the past which seemed to indicate that the problem was in the snap ring area. This proved not to be the case (we think). I'.m now satisfied with the situation as it is, considering that there does not appear to be any wing spar involvement, Takeoffs, landings and taxiing are smooth - and I cannot hear the noise from inside the cockpit with my headset on! Actually, the noise isn't all that bothersome, and happens only when lifting up or pushing down the left wingtip.
