My problem is solved, thanks to numerous inputs on and off site from you Coupers. You will recall that my 65 ALON generator was putting out 15 to 16 volts in flight at cruise rpm. My generator and voltage regulator are Delco-Remy, 35 amp, original equipment (I thought). Not wishing to electrocute myself or set the ALON afire, I removed the voltage regulator and took it to a nearby automobile/truck starter and generator shop. I said "...this is a 40 year old Delco Remy voltage regulator, factory installed". The technician replied " No, it isnt. The Delco cover plate is, but the regulator is an after market one. That is why there are no voltage adjustment screws in it". He then took one of his stock 35 amp generators off his shelf and hooked it and my regulator up on a bench to a huge machine with lots of dials and switches and wires. I hope I'm not being too technical, here. After about 30 - 40 minutes of working on it, he put it back together and noted that the metal tab adjuster is "pretty touchy", but he was able to set it at 14.2 volts. Apparently a previous owner had installed the regulator without having it calibrated, and it has been putting out excessive voltage ever since. No log book entry, of course. The charge for this service was a whopping ten bucks ! Is this a great country or what ?!?!
