Hi Bob (WRB Speaking),

Your present Gill G-25M is not listed on Type Certificate 787 either
although the AC-54 Exide Alon originally
put in their planes appears to have been a manifold-type. Alon did not
specify a manifold-type battery in the type
certificate, so you're looking at "materials and practices acceptable
to the administrator". I don't see the problem.

Both Gill and Concorde batteries are FAA/PMA'd. That is the
"necessary" FAA production approval per
Type Certificate 787. Who is the "they" that doesn't want your
business? The Concorde RG-25 or RG-25XC are
PMA sealed (valve regulated) lead acid batteries that are "fully
aerobatic" construction; no spillable electrolyte or
flammable gas emissions. The "XC indicates extra cranking power.
(Didn't see "XLC") Such batteries should be
as safe or safer (with no battery box) as the manifold type. A 337 to
install same in lieu of the now-unavailable
manifold type should as easy as it gets.

You could also consider installing a battery box like the 8-1/2" x
5-3/4" x 8-1/2" battery box Cat. No.. I-818-000
for $84 from Wag-Aero or the 11-00105 for $92.35 from Aircraft Spruce
with a 337. If these fit, then you can use the "plain vanilla" Gill or
Concorde batteries. Installation instructions and venting information
can be found in Ercoupe Service Bulletin No. 22 and Ercoupe Service
Memorandums No. 23 and No. 44.

Regards,

In need of some advice on battery replacement.  My current battery

I have been told this batery is no longer available as are the two apro
ved origional equip batterys Exide AC54 and a Reading R24L.

Can't find a listing for an approved battery. I found a Concord
RG25XLC
but they won't sell it to me unless I can find documentation that this
battery
is approved.  I understand It needs to be a manifold vented battery or a
sealed type battery.

Anyone out there have any paperwork on this problem,

I need to take care of this ASAP.  This grass strip has finally dr
ied out and the weather is beautiful.

Thanks
