Hey John: The previous comments are all very valid. I would ask as to how
many hours are on your C-85 since it has been overhauled (cylinders especially)?
If you have relatively low hours since overhaul, do not have a lot of blow by,
and have properly replaced all the baffling, then I would look at the size
of the out flow openings. If your cowling is too close at the rear, and does not
easily let enough of the air out, you do not have good cooling.
Another problem I have seen on several Coupes is
that the carburetor air inlet is too far from the nose bowl, and you end up with
almost equal pressure top and bottom of the engine. If everything else is OK, it
may pay to reduce the amount of air that enters the cowling below the engine.
This should increase the pressure gradient between the top and bottom of the
engine, thus helping to cool the engine by forcing more air past the
cylinders.
