I would remove the lower strut completely, clean
it, fill with 10 ounces and when putting back check the O-ring of the upper
piston too.
All you have to do is remove the lower bolt that
holds the strut.
On the other hand, might have had already 5 ounces
old oil in the strut and added 5 more ounces. That should be totally
fine.
But I recommend the total removal of the lower
strut. It is easy to do while the plane is jacked and it assures, you are
getting all the dirt out of the assembly plus you'll know the condition of the
O-ring, more importently, if you find cups instead of an o-ring, you'll have to
use a differnt fluid also. ( brake fluid)
I had my struts serviced by my mechanic, who went
by the book and added hydraulic oil, but these struts had cups in and the oil
made them soft, after a year or so, they where toast.

Question! On the 415C Service manual page 34 it states that the strut should be filled in the full extended position with the bumper removed and it should hold aprox. 10 ounces of fluid. (I used 5606). All that it seems to take is aprox. 4 or 5 ounces. In the full extended position(AC jacked up) I filled it until it ran out of the little filler receptical. Can't figure out how to get anywhere close to 10 ounces in it. Any ideas?Ed============================================================================== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm Search the archives on http://escribe.com/aviation/coupers-tech/
