Well, duh, I'm disputing my own email. You can't REDUCE gross weight on a D model, since it has to always have been within the LSA specs. And you CANNOT INCREASE it via 337. That's on the FAA web site.

I guess I'm back on the rice cakes.

I was reading about 337 forms today on the FAA web site. It had a list of things that COULD NOT be changed via a 337. The only thing relevant was "an INCREASE in gross weight" (capitals are mine). It seems to me that it IS possible that you could convert a C to a D (or just buy a D) and REDUCE the maximum weight via 337. And if ONE gets approved, the odds increase that others will be approved, too.

Doug,

The only difference in a D from a CD (which is LSP legal), is the restricted elevator travel.

The Stainless steel covering that is not on C models, was required on D models ( Not because of the model change, but because the CAA(FAA) missed it on certification of the C model when the engine was changed from the ERCO inline engine to the continental engine), and was required on the CD models. The s/s was required for safety reasons, as the new cowling now covered the forward fuselage area...and, thus, was inside the engine compartment.

The CD has all the changes made to the D model except the limited elevator travel and the increased GW. There was an H model ( only 7 sold) according to "...A touch of Class", without battery, starter and gen, with a GW of 1360 lbs, and still 13 deg up travel...

That ought to be precedence for the safety of increased GW to 1320..
