First off, the oil question.  I always checked it cold.  That way, "all the oil is down in the sump," according to my brother.

 

As to spins, Ed pretty much said it all.  You may wish to go to www.ercoupe.org and read my review of "Stick And Rudder."

1. Can an Ercoupe spin, what might initiate it, and what are the methods to stop the spin (no rudder pedals)
 
2. What's gives the most meaningful oil level check - hot engine or cold
