Usually, with a commission, Don, you rarely got to work on any part of the plane. Lynn Nelsen provided a accurate and easy to perform procedure to determine if toe-in or toe-out is present. It consists of carefully measuring the distance between identical tire tread grooves on each wheel: across the front of the tires , then the rear. Tire pressures must be the same, and the vertical location of the meauring tape must be, too. I think this procedure will work on any airplane, and any size tire. In my case, the measurements were precisely identical. I suspect my uneven wear resulted from built-in camber, insufficient pressure in my tires, and slipping sideways (occasionally) on crosswind landings. I'll bet that many/most of you already knew about this, but we Marine Corps fighter jocks rarely got to work on our landing gear (or our ejection seats)!
