James: The torque value on the fuel pump cap is 30 + or - 5 inch pounds
"Yes, we did and what it the torque value?   I have left the little red
pamphlet service manual (from Univair) at Rutherfordton and am in Asheville
preparing to drive to Sevierville."
I must apologize again, because I made it sound like the restrictor is in the fuel line. The restrictor is normally in the outlet fitting of the fuel pump. The fitting is plugged except for a 1/16 inch diameter hole to let the fuel out. I believe this restricts the fuel flow to approximately 7 gallons per hour.
I have put all of Alon service bulletin # 16 and most of bulletin # 19 in two different Alons. I do not believe that these are required, as long as the system is working properly. I believe these as well as some of the other Alon bulletins were put out because someone had trouble with the fuel system and the legal department reacted.
If you have one wing tank cap with a vent hole and one without, as well as a vent hole in the header tank cap, I would plug the hole in the wing tank cap and test fly the airplane to make certain that fuel flows properly from both wing tanks. One Alon I worked on had fuel troubles, which turned out to be trash in the header tank. I tried vents in the wing tanks, but found it worked better with the thermos bottle type.
It does sounds like you may have had a fuel pump failure, and if so, I would order a rebuilt pump for a C-90. As I said before, I do not recommend using an automotive pump.
I am glad you are learning about the Alon fuel system and are talking to us about it. Hopefully, you will find the problem(s).
