I'm not sure why the 7150 prop is considered "standard" for an
Ercoupe. Maybe marketing needed higher cruise numbers for the
ads. The Cessna 120/140 with a C85 and similar drag profile calls
for a 7148 as standard. 7146 is a climb prop and 7150 is
cruise. Most 120/140s cruise around 105-110 mph. I believe that the
Ercoupe's reputation for anemic climb is largely due to the fact that
it's over proped. I'd go with the 7148 and not be afraid to cruise
at 2500 RPM if you want to go a little faster.
next annual I'm getting it repitched to a 7148. I'll try that out
for a while off my grass strip. If I still don't like it, I'll go
for the 7146 at the next annual..........
Exercise caution here. McCauley has restrictions on the number of
times a prop can be twisted. IIRC, 3's the limit and you can only
change direction once, i.e. you can go up then down twice but not up
then down then back up. So, figure out the history of your prop and
choose your strategy accordingly
