Hey Larry: If you are planning to fly quite a bit at night, or use the
landing light regularly, I would recommend considering the 4509Q (quartz)
replacement bulb. It puts out the same amount of light, and uses the same amount
of current as the 4509, but it lasts about 4 times as long.
Before you tear any wiring out of the airplane,
check the light switch. It may very well be a 1946 vintage too, and they have a
tendency to fail.
