I use the Becker com in my ercoupe. It fits fine mounted in the lower instrucment hole area left of center and no problems seeing it at that level either. Also note, if you want an outside air temp it is available as an option for just a few bucks more. There is a US Becker service center also, it does not have to go outside country to be serviced and is tso'd.
Also, if you are looking for a basic gps and com the Garmin gnc series fit between the fuselage fuel tank and the instrument panel. Of course you do not have all the nice terrain tracking of the Garmin and Lorance portables, but if you wanted an IFR certified unit its a very good way to go. If you don't need the terrain tracking and stuff, and are happy with just aviation map level maping they are a good value and can be mounted nicely right in front of the yoke, or off center if you are going for a gyro panel.
