Glen::
Al is on the right track, Switches are normally rated by their AC or DC current switching capacity, and if it is rated a 10 Amps AC it is probably about a 2 Amp DC rated switch.  Another culprit might be in the voltage regulator.  If the regulator voltage relay is sticking closed there may be a current path through parts of the electrical system, depending how your particular aircraft is wired.

Most "Ercoupe" master switches switch both the High current master accessory buss current and the field circuit of the generator.

Hope this helps

Subject: [COUPERS-FLYIN] electrical problem

----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----

Guys

I have a 415D with a recurring electrical problem.  I am interested if anyone has experienced the same problem and how it was rectified (no pun intended).

When I shut off the master switch, sometimes it works fine and shuts off.  Other times, it does not.  I know it has not shut off because:

1. The light on the volt meter remains on
2. I do not hear the "clicking" sound of the solenoid
3.  If I don't notice it not shutting down,  the battery is dead in the morning.

When this problem happens, the only way I can kill the electrical system is to pull the breaker for the alternator.

I have already done the following:

1. Replaced the master switch
2. Replaced the solenoid
3. Replaced the battery

On occasion, the problem has occurred on start-up.  When I turn on the master switch, nothing happens.  I have been able to resolve this on start up by cycling the master several times.

Any advice?

Glen
