50 hrs. @ $50/hr. is pretty steep for the R&R. As for the
preferred rebuilder,
he can not know the cost with out opening the engine first, therefore
neither
of you know a fair overhaul price. Examples; Is the crank
trash? - if so, up to
$4000 for a O-200 conversion (STC, pistons, crank, possible
machining), are
the accessories going to be overhauled? Are the cylinders
trash? Up to
$2500. I think you are looking at minimum to maximum cost variation
of
$2000 to $8500 for parts, plus labor on the rebuilding - get some
other estimates
with "what if" costs a little more defined. Try to get all rebuilders
to quote you
on labor only, that way you can at least compare apples to apples on
that.
