I did  some checking last night.  The "official" service documentation is vague on whether or not the molding should be glued to the windshield or not.  The Skyport documentation for conversion to the bubble windshield, and is based in part on Forney documentation, is specific about gluing the molding to the windshield first.  Also, mention is made in the official documentation of 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, which is readily available at most auto parts stores and is similar if not identical to 3M 1300L, which is commonly used for gluing deice boots and other rubber parts to aircraft surfaces.  If it can hold a boot on a prop blade on a turboprop, it likely will work on an Ercoupe windshield.
