Folks, please don't assume that the air at altitude is clean and you air filter is not required once you get some altitude. The air at altitude is very dirty to any type of engine.
Try collecting in a nice clean plastic pail, a pail full of that nice pure white snow that falls way out in God's country, let it melt, and take a look at all the crap that was with that nice pristeen clean snow [or rain ]
It is really bad downwind of any city. Try it for yourselves.
