It might be that A-718 was not called a Type Certificate when it was created, but it surely is now listed under Type certificates on the FAA Website.

And the FAA is treating them as such these days. I have been in an FAA Office and talked to teh guys. These are all TC now and they are the LAW when it comes to aircraft & equipment.

As for the snubber cable discussion, I am 100% sure that no Ercoupe has left factory with one.

I might add that the cable might have found useful over the times when more and more folks converted to the 415-D for the higher power engine and the much needed added gross weight. The elevator restriction is the only downside of that conversion and one could assume that having the snubber cable installed should ensure that your mains are making first contact and then the nose.

Also every owner is urging for any cheap to buy advancement of his flying machine. That cable is just a few bucks in investment and who knows what the people were imagine it does when they put the cable on.

We all know that using the most expensive gasoline makes the car run faster right? At least that's what my wife believes.

The 415-C and C/D models were built according to AIRCRAFT SPECIFICATION
NO. A-718, while the D model and higher, including Forney, Alon, etc.,
are certificated under TYPE CERTIFICATE DATA SHEET NO. A-787. The
difference is all in the name of the document. A-718 is not a Type
Certificate, A-787 is a Type Certificate.

According to my A&P/IA the 415-C and C/D models, therefore, were each
individually inspected for airworthiness by the FAA rep at the factory
because A-718 is not a Type Certificate, only a Specification. And,
that is why each one can be a little bit different.

I would be interested in anyone else's opinion on this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "these cables" are not "listed on the type
certificate" for any "models of
Ercoupes" on TC 718 or TC787, including the M10 (on which it was a
production part).

Perhaps Mr. Clemmer could share the basis for his distinction, which
would seem to infer that somewhere
"these cables" were used or are somewhere authorized by AD or service
bulletin for "later models"?

I see confusion - not clarity here. Maybe he just drew the short straw
when your query came in?

WRB

Hi Bill,

These cables are used on later models of Ercoupes but they do
not belong on
a 415c. There was no AD or service bulletin ever issued for its
use on a
415c and it is not listed on the type certificate.

Hope this helps,
Tim Clemmer
