Unasked question – how many overall?
Answer: I don’t know for sure –
I’ve only been paying attention closely since 1979. In 26 years, I only
know of two where the wings have departed the airplane. There’s the
recent one we’ve been discussing and there was another one about ten
years ago where the pilot was also reputed to practice aerobatics.
Moral: Don’t do aerobatics in an
Ercoupe unless you can show your diploma from the Bob Hoover aerobatics in an
unsuitable, not-designed-for-it aircraft school.
