Hello All,
Is stress corrosion cracks in rivets unique to Ercoupes,  what causes
it,  can it be prevented
would it not apply to all aircraft, which comes first the crack or the
corrosion?  In other words
what is it all about as related to rivets?
John

I am not an expert here, but my understanding is that if there is
stress corrosion in the rivet it will show up. I know ultrasound can
detect intergranular corrosion. Also, the SB specifically mentions
problems at the base of the shop heat, IIRC, which is a lot closer to
the probe than the other end of the rivet. Anyhow, I believe that the
ultrasonic inspection can detect these areas of concern. Anyone else?
