Not many hobbies will make money so why think that flying is going to. It cost to own maintain
and fly a A/C like any other hobby. Go play golf 2 or 3 times a week and see what it cost at the
end of a month. If you maintain your A/C with out going over board it will usually be worth more
in a few years than you paid for it. At least all of your money is not wasted.

Gordon: Ditto we maintain and fly Ercoupes because this is what we enjoy and where we choose to put our time and money. It does not matter that we are putting more into an airplane than it may be worth. Others do it with cars, boats, etc. It is what is important to the individual. Woodstock, GA From: Larry Snyder [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----I'm NOT an A&P, or an IA, are a CFI. Only letters I have are PP-ASEL and BA. I enjoy the technical discussions on this list, although I admit this service bulletin discussion has gotten a bit out of hand. It's OK, we all worry about that darned center section. I have my center beam inspection coming up in May, so I'm hoping it at least LOOKS OK after 3 years. I have decided, however, that if it's bad, I will replace it. I'm figuring $6,000 for spar and about $4,000 to replace it. I'm not sure where I could get another airplane with a BRAND NEW center spar for $10,000. Oh, and a rebuild is coming, which will be another $8,000 or so. So basically, I will buy another Ercoupe, just to have mine where I want it. (worst case). But - it will then be exactly where it needs to be. I'm not planning on going off and buying another airplane which could very well have the same or similar problems.
Hey, Dennis and Gordon, if you'd like to meet somewhere in Illinois for a Saturday lunch some time, let me know. I'm always looking for places to fly!

I am in Illinois. It has been too wet for ducks here lately. I am trying to get back into flying, and have chosen a coupe. I took my last test yesterday, that they are requiring to renew my medical.
My last plane was a Stinson 108. I have been self grounded for a few years do to health which has mostly been addressed. I have been reading this site for some time, but my comments was my first post.
Yes, most of it has been very informative. I, too want to know as much about m! y plane as possible.
