Well to be honest, I think that if there is any increase in speed, it's neglible. It's truly all about looks (at the expense of the lower usable gross weight). When I got them from my good old buddy Paul Anton he had already taken them off his coupe and rendered them useless (he was right). The wheelpants were literally full of Bull%*&# so we assumed that the former owner of his plane frequently landed in a pasture somewhere. Since I like the looks of them installed, I was happy to get them from him. I've kept them on for about 7 years now... and plan to keep them.
Benefits:
Looks (if you like em)
Dual landing light cuffs
Keeps the Bull%*&# off the bottom of the wings (and in the cockpit with the pilot)
Cons:
Looks (if you hate em)
Makes pre-flighting the wheels/brakes next to impossible
Added weight
More work removing them during annual inspection
